Living in the heart of California's wine country it is tough not to see the aftermath of a "difficult" grape harvest.Grapes that do not reach their potential whither on the vine. Metaphor? Hmmm...
A cold summer, followed by literally scorching heat spells led to a good deal of grape carnage.
Some vineyards lost 20% of their
harvest and are grateful for it.
Some let the whole crop rot on the vine.The grapes that were harvested have a potential of being very good. They may be a little low in alcohol content but because of the extended amount of time they were on the vine the flavors could be complex and unique.
Keep your fingers crossed.
Official crop report is due in February.
Time to prune and prepare for next season.
